International Bursary Scheme (ASGBI)

BASO~ACS has agreed to support the ASGBI's International Bursary Scheme and will sponsor the application with interest in the cancer/oncology surgery.

The International Bursary Scheme enables surgical trainees from poorly resourced countries to take part in the training development programme, which includes two days hosted at a UK hospital with the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques, and three days attending ASGBI's International Surgical Congress with the chance to hear from leaders in the profession and learn about new surgical developments.  The programme aims to improve standards of surgery around the globe, because trainees not only develop their own skills but then use these skills to educate their colleagues in their home country.

Applicants submit a detailed CV along with two supporting clinical references and a covering letter outlining how they hope to benefit from the programme. Any trainee in a specialist training programme in general surgery in a poorly resourced country is eligible to apply.  Applications are then assessed by the charity's International Development Committee (BASO~ACS has a representation on this board) and suitable trainees are offered a bursary when funds allow.   Each Bursary is worth £2,000.

How to apply..

BASO~ACS is proud to announce that Mr Vald Cojocari from Moldova was awarded this grant at the 2017 ASGBI Annual Meeting. Here is a report from Mr V Cojocari.
